Union Station in Los Angeles, which opened in May 1939, is known as the “Last of the Great Railway Stations” built in the United States, but even with its massive and ornate waiting room and adjacent ticket concourse, it is considered small in comparison to other union stations.
Since 1918, Philippe’s has been serving their famous French-dipped sandwiches, and it was the original Philippe who claims to have invented the juicy concoction nearly 100 years ago. The French Dip was good, but the overall experience was better. Tip: Philippe’s is a cash-only restaurant, but there is an ATM on the premises.

For Aunt Ken’s birthday we went out for Mexican food. The wait staff sang to Ken; Uncle Steve tried to set his daughters (Claire and Carmen) up with the waiter; and his daughters explained the concept of Emo to him.

Mount Timpanogos is the second highest mountain in Utah’s Wasatch Range (second to Mount Nebo). We frolicked through the snow, had a minor snowball fight, and Justin made a beautiful snow angel.
Justin has family in Orem, Utah (part of Utah Valley), and his very-knowledgeable Uncle Steve gave us a personal guided tour of the city… my favorite part was the camels in a corral!

Justin & I had a relaxing Christmas day lounging around my parents’ house. We had French toast for breakfast then opened presents together. That night, my step-dad Richard made a traditional Christmas dinner in only one hour! Very impressive.
